Freeform & Lagoon Pool Designs in Austin

Soft, natural curves that look like they have always belonged to the land. We build freeform and lagoon style pools that blend into Austin and the Hill Country.

Why Hire Modern Pools for Your Freeform Pool

We have built custom pools in Austin since 1999. That is more than 25 years of work on rocky, sloped Hill Country lots. A freeform pool uses soft curves and a natural shape. To get that look right, the design and the land have to work together. Our in house civil engineer and architect handle both. We start with pool design and a real 3D model, so you see your lagoon style pool before we dig. Then our pool construction crew builds it at a fixed price.

Natural stone and rock features are our specialty. A great freeform pool often needs a rock waterfall, a grotto, or a boulder edge to feel like a true lagoon. Our water features team builds these from real stone, not plastic. We can also tie the pool into a full outdoor living space with planting and patios. We build all over the area, including Rollingwood, Dripping Springs, and Lakeway.

Is a Freeform Pool Right for Your Lot?

A freeform pool fits best on a wooded or natural lot. If your yard has trees, slopes, boulders, or an odd shape, a curved pool can flow around it. The relaxed lagoon look feels at home under Hill Country oaks. You also get a soft, natural water shape with no hard corners, which many families find calmer and more inviting.

Not every lot or owner is a match. If you love clean, straight lines and a sharp modern look, a freeform shape may feel too soft. In that case a geometric pool is the better pick, and we are happy to build that instead. We will tell you honestly which style suits your space and budget. Ready for a freeform pool? Design Options

What goes into a freeform pool.

These are the natural features that give a freeform or lagoon pool its relaxed, organic feel.

The Shape

Organic gunite form

We build with gunite, which lets us pour any soft, curved shape you want. No square edges, just natural flowing lines that wrap around your lot.

The Edges

Natural stone & boulders

Real stone and placed boulders frame the water. This is what makes a freeform pool read as a true lagoon and not just a curvy pool.

The Sound

Rock waterfall or grotto

A stacked rock waterfall or a hidden grotto adds movement and sound. It turns a quiet backyard into a natural retreat.

The Entry

Beach entry & Baja shelf

A zero depth beach entry lets you walk right in like a lake. A Baja shelf gives a shallow spot for chairs, kids, and tanning.

The Setting

Landscape integration

We tuck planting, stone, and grade work around the pool so it blends into your wooded Hill Country lot from day one.

The Finish

Finish & coping

Natural stone coping and a pebble or quartz interior finish complete the look. The colors are picked to match your yard and home.

Freeform Pool FAQs

Austin freeform pool questions, answered

Straight answers on cost, design, permits, and building a freeform pool on tough Austin Hill Country lots.

How much does a freeform pool cost in Austin?

Most custom freeform pools in Austin start around the low six figures and go up with size and stone work. Rock waterfalls, boulders, and a beach entry add the most cost. We give you one fixed price up front, so there are no surprises later.

What is a freeform pool?

A freeform pool is a pool with a soft, curved, natural shape instead of straight lines. The edges flow and bend to fit your yard. This relaxed style is what many people in Austin call a lagoon pool.

What is the difference between a freeform pool and a lagoon pool?

They are very close, and most builders use the words together. A lagoon pool is a freeform pool dressed up with heavy natural stone, boulders, and a beach entry to look like a tropical lagoon. Every lagoon pool is freeform, but not every freeform pool is a full lagoon.

Is a freeform pool the same as a natural pool or a pond?

No. A natural pool or pond uses plants to filter the water and has no chlorine. A freeform pool just has a natural shape, but it is still a clean, sanitized gunite pool that is easy to care for. We build the freeform kind, with natural looks and normal pool water.

Can you add natural stone and waterfalls to a freeform pool?

Yes, and this is our specialty. We build rock waterfalls, grottos, and boulder edges from real stone for freeform and lagoon pools across Austin. These features give the pool its natural sound and look.

Can I get a beach entry on a freeform pool?

Yes. A beach entry, also called a zero depth entry, works great on freeform and lagoon pools. You walk right into the water like a lake, which is safe for kids and easy for pets. We can pair it with a Baja shelf for tanning.

Do freeform pools suit wooded Hill Country lots in Austin?

Yes, they are one of the best fits for the Hill Country. The curved shape flows around trees, slopes, and rock, and the natural stone blends into the land. We build freeform and lagoon pools in Dripping Springs, Lakeway, Barton Creek, and the rest of the Austin area.
