What goes into a vanishing edge.

An infinity pool is part design, part precision engineering. These are the pieces we build to make the edge disappear, tuned to your lot, your view, and your soil.

The Edge

A dead level weir wall

The spillover wall, called the weir, is built dead level so water sheets evenly across the whole edge. Off by a fraction and the effect breaks, so we build it to within a fraction of an inch.

The Basin

A hidden catch basin

A concealed lower basin collects the spillover and feeds it back to the pool. We size it for the surge volume, the extra water that pushes over when swimmers get in, so it never overflows or runs dry.

Circulation

Variable speed pumps

A dedicated variable speed pump moves the right volume of water over the edge quietly and efficiently. Dialing the flow up or down is how we tune the look and the sound of the spillover.

Structure

Engineered for the slope

On a hillside the edge wall and basin are fully engineered with reinforced gunite, retaining structure, and drainage. This is what separates a vanishing edge that lasts from one that cracks.

Automation

Levelers and sensors

An auto fill leveler holds the water at the exact height the edge needs, and a wind sensor can pause the spillover on gusty Austin days to cut evaporation and overspray.

Do infinity pools waste water or evaporate faster?

An infinity edge uses about the same water as a standard pool day to day, since the spillover is recirculated, not drained. The thin sheet of moving water does evaporate slightly faster in Austin heat and wind, so we pair the pool with an auto fill leveler and, where it helps, a wind sensor that pauses the edge on gusty days.
