John Gaines Park and Swim Center
Our John Gaines Park project was featured in Texas Architect, September / October 2020, with photography by Case Dunn.
Located on the former tarmac of a municipal airport with direct views of its landmarked flight tower, the design recalls the site’s midcentury history through its colors and shapes, offering new vitality as a community hub for recreation, food-growing, and multi-generational play. The bath house and pool anchor the park, where a trellised breezeway showcases the project’s sustainability measures: green roofs, interior courtyards, and rain gardens. Alternating solar panels and flowering vines provide dappled shade over the breezeway and wading pool.
